Most of us are aware of the significant role that heritage plays in society through engaging the public and improving the way places are perceived.

However, you might not know that heritage also plays an important part in our wellbeing and can officially make us happy!

As part of Heritage Counts 2016, Historic England has produced Heritage and Society, a detailed report illustrating the benefits that the historic environment brings.

Chief amongst its findings is the wonderful news that people who actively participate in heritage have a higher average happiness score compared to those that don’t.

So take a moment to enjoy the heritage around you, it might just brighten up your day!
