Three of us had a wonderful time at the YHACS Convention in Halifax and discovered that the Piece Hall is definitely worth a visit.
The history of the hall, as told by the Conservation officer at Halifax Council, seems fascinating, and the fact that it has been restored to preserve its heritage is commendable. The Hall was built in 1779 for the woollen cloth trade.
Halifax appears to be a town full of lovely old buildings that are surrounded by magnificent countryside. It was also great to see that there was a lot going on in the magnificent courtyard of Piece Hall, making it a joyous place to be on a sunny Saturday.
Halifax Civic Society Visit
The fact that Halifax Civic Society would like to visit us is a testament to the value and importance of the work we do. Overall, the convention was truly inspiring, and I’m glad we had the opportunity to attend.
Coronation Event
The Coronation Event was delightful. Luckily the weather was kind to and everyone enjoyed the Prosecco and canapés. The Under Sheriff to the High Sheriff of Lancashire David Cam, raised the toast to King Charles. He also shared a little history and background to the role the Sheriff plays, the Sheriff’s court ran smoothly, and that the Sheriff’s writs and warrants were executed efficiently.
The position of under Sheriff is Steeped in history and tradition. The history of the Under Sheriff dates back to medieval times when the Sheriff of a county would appoint a deputy to assist him in carrying out his duties. The Under Sheriff was primarily responsible for ensuring that The Coronation Event was delightful.
He is responsible for ensuring that the legal and administrative requirements of the High Sheriff are met, and that the Sheriff’s court is held in accordance with traditional legal processes. The sheriffs are chosen by the King.
Many thanks to everyone involved both guests and volunteers whom together made it into a memorable occasion.
